Pilates is an excellent option for pregnant women with benefits including helping to strengthen and tone the body in preparation for changes that occur during pregnancy, helping reduce the risk of aches, pains and complications, as well as training the body for the marathon of childbirth!!

Our classes are designed to be taken at your own pace and will be modified to suit individual needs and any evolving issues as pregnancy progresses. All fitness levels are welcome and no prior experience is necessary.

If you are new to Pilates, or have any pain or injury we do recommend a pre assessment appointment with one of our physiotherapists to ensure we address your individual needs.

At around 6 - 10 weeks post-natal, it is safe to return to light exercise. Pilates is an excellent option helping to rebuild core and pelvic floor strength.

OUR SPECIALTIES

We specialise in the following areas

Pregnancy Pilates

We run both Mat and Reformer based Pilates Classes appropriate for any stage of pregnancy. A mixture of props are used, including swiss balls, light weights and therabands. We provide a workout that is challenging and varied, whilst embracing the changes and development of the body during pregnancy.

Mums and Bubs Pilates

This class is especially designed for mums to bring their baby to class (Only babies who are not yet on the move, for safety!). A blanket can be provided for babies or you may choose to bring your own. Attention is paid to understanding and encouraging the recruitment of pelvic floor and low abdominals. Expect a variety of exercises to work your arms and legs, as well as helping you to connect with your core muscles. re:ab provides a supportive atmosphere to encourage mums back into exercise.

Stroller Boot Camp (weather depending)

This is a chance for you to get outside and do some exercise for you and your baby. We will meet at re:ab and walk together to Grey Lynn Park. When we are there, we will do exercises which will incorporate the weight element of your baby and your stroller. All exercise will be low impact, body weight exercises following a pilates style of Bootcamp helping to strengthen and tone. We will take therabands and loops with us to add variety. Clearance by your Lead Maternity Carer and Women's Health Physio is essential for this Bootcamp.

Post Natal Friendly Classes (PNF)

We welcome anyone to our PNF classes but the repertoire will be particularly suited to our Post Natal clients, with attention and focus on pelvic floor and lower abdominal recruitment. Whatever your experience of Pilates, this class will safely take you through mat and reformer repertoire to get you ready for a general level class.

One-to-Ones

If you would prefer a more individualised approach to exercise and rehabilitation during pregnancy or post natal, our experienced Physiotherapists happily offer 1-1 sessions. This may be particularly appropriate to help rehabilitate from a more complex delivery or to treat pregnancy and post natal aches and pains. These Physiotherapy sessions may be hands on or Pilates focused depending on individual needs.
