Feldenkrais – Awareness through movement
- Improve posture, breathing, ease of movement
- Change movement habits that create pain and tension
- Ease back, joint and neck pain, reduce stiffness and OOS pain
- Improve stability, flexibility and co-ordination
- Enhance self awareness and personal well being
The Feldenkrais Method is a method of movement re-education and addresses unconsciously held habits and patterns of movement or holding of tension in the body. Through increasing awareness these are recognised and new and more varied ways of moving, including breathing, occur. Flexibility, posture and general functioning is improved. The change in physical experience can improve clarity of mind, and create feelings of calm , ease and overall wellbeing.
Maggie has a background in the performing arts as an actress, and prior to that as a dancer. She had a lot of back pain while she was a dancer and the discovery of the Feldenkrais Method in 1990 changed this.
She was already a qualified massage practitioner, but felt a bit like the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff in helping people with injuries and pain. With the Feldenkrais Method she believes she can address the habits and tensions that caused pain in the first place.
Maggie has taught individuals and public classes in movement education in different forms including yoga and working in gyms, for over 20 years and has been a Feldenkrais Practitioner for 10 years.
Clients include performing artists, athletes, business people, those with back, neck and postural difficulties, people with anxiety, stress, migraine or neurological conditions.
She is also a qualified counsellor, and provisional member of NZAC.
